Cygnet House is a welcoming, accepting and caring temporary home for kids (primarily teens) who are entering into, moving suddenly within or needing respite in the foster system. They may be needing some time to find just the right area, family and home for them to move to. Rather than spend those days waiting in the DCYF offices for diverse kids that can be harder to place, a home is made available to them to have hot meals, fun activities, supervision, comfortable beds, sense of safety and stability, and much needed personal items and clothing prior to entering their best fitting foster placements.

It was founded in 2021 by a foster parent in Snohomish County, WA who saw a need for support of foster kids and teens especially in the areas of LGBTQIA+, racial/religious diversity, and sibling groups that can sometimes take longer than typical to find just the right foster home and family for them to live. They will stay at Cygnet House for days to weeks, then arrive to their new foster homes with full bellies, sufficient clean belongings, good hygiene, and dignity. They will be prepared to go back to school, out to appointments and meet new people and friends with their best foot forward.

Cygnet house is made possible through donations from the community to develop specifically designed short term shelter, care and support for foster kids and teens during a turbulent and uncertain time in their young lives. No matter how small, all monetary donations made to this organization add up to provide a dignified, safe and caring environment for kids coming out of unstable or traumatic situations.
